My wife’s Border Collie (that she got anyway after I told her not to, and we agreed on it) has a combined howl and bark. There are times when the dog hears an ant fart, and that unexpected howl sounds like a train whistle in my ear. My soul leaves my body. Every strange sound brings on chaos of barking and howling. No commands, no treats, nothing works. Her sole purpose in life is to howl and bark and drive me up a wall. She has caused a rift in our marriage. I want to give the dog up to a shelter. She guards and pampers it, taking it into the bedroom, closing the door.
